You must already have housing in or next to Islamorada, FL to apply. All applicants must be available for training Charters within the next week, ready for busy season soon, which requires at least a partial day availability Saturday & Sunday and on/near summer holidays. Weekday availability is also appreciated.
SUMMARY:
Seeking 2 Entertaining, professional freelance six-pack USCG captains. The two new captains will be needed for and fun boat charters in Islamorada, Florida. Our 3-6-hour charters for Sandbar, sightsee, sunset, and snorkeling are aboard five well-maintained single engine boats, from 21 ft to 26 ft. The more availabilty/flexibilty you have and if you are great at communicating (quickly), the more charters you will get from us. When not on charters, preferred captains will also be able to perform a some hours (weekly) of dockside work, boat cleaning & light maintenance, errands, and/or answer "lost customer"-type of urgent calls.
PAYMENT
- On-call for charters while performing DOCKSIDE work pays $25/hour (estimate 6-8 hrs per week)
-TRAINING CHARTERS pay $50-100 each trip (3-4 hours, time varies).
-INITIAL CHARTERS pay $35/hr plus tips - after training charters are no longer needed
-SUBSEQUENT CHARTERS for confirmed captains with limited additional oversight needed pay $40-$60/hr depending on the number of "trip hours" each day (fewer hours/day pays more per hr), bump in pay and 5-star recommendation BONUS available.
PERK - In addition to pay rates listed below for each type of Captain, we add bonuses for great work (5 star online reviews for some online sites), commission for sales of charters, and extra pay for holidays. Our great captains make great tips as well.

EXPECTATIONS OF CAPTAINS
+Captain must have fun, positive interactions with customers, on the boat and IN THE WATER. We're looking for "ENTERTAINERS" who are also safe, professional, licensed captains. The job is not for quiet/shy people.
+Captain must be in-water for some activities (hosting at the sandbar, setting up water toys, rescuing at the snorkel reef, etc).
+Must be able to lift paddleboards and standard-size coolers with ice onto the boat.
+Boats must remain clean and well-maintained.
+Captain must consider himself/herself a true team-member, not simply an individual employee, who follows the company's formats For our successful five star Charters. We also will empower trusted Captains to make rational decisions when on the water and appreciate input to make our charters even better.
+Must respond within an acceptable amount of time text/phone messages (within 15 minutes if you're at the top of the roster that day).
+Must be a respectful, proactive communicator
+Must be consistently on-time. Absolutely must not be late to prep the boat or pickup guests without advanced communication.
+Great to have customer service/bar-tender type experience for bigger tips and repeat guests.
JOB/SKILLS/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
* Valid USCG 6-pack license – Must provide by interview time
* Prefer a MINIMUM 3 YEARS USCG License and/or significant number of years of boating ownership/experience
* Snorkel boat/charter experience preferred But not required
* Must be a problem-solver and rule-follower. We train you to follow our routes and our business “formula”. We give you guidelines to follow, but you have to be able to work through problems on your own in a safe, courteous, and professional manner on the boat, with customers, and at the dock.
* Clean criminal/legal record for 10 years - Some lesser legal issues may be OK - Ask us.
* No drugs. No drinking (before or during charters). No smoking aboard the boat (smoke-break at the sandbar ok)
* Expertise in safely maneuvering/docking/anchoring single engine boats.
* Great to have experience in the Islamorada bayside, sandbar, and oceanside reef area between markers 88 and 82 (our route)…. BUT not a deal breaker. We will ride-along until you are familiar during a training period.
